Important milestones in the history of Wibu-Systems:
1989
- Wibu-Systems is founded in Karlsruhe Germany by Marcellus Buchheit and Oliver Winzenried.
- WibuBox, a dongle for the LPT interface, is introduced.
1993
- First dongle as a PCMCIA card, introduced at the COMDEX/Fall in Las Vegas.
1998
- CodeMeter development begins.
2000
- All WibuKey products receive the UL listing (Underwriter Laboratories) for USA / Canada
2001
- Wibu-Systems USA Inc. is founded.
- First WibuKey Hacker’s Contest announced.
- Document protection SmartShelter introduced.
- Participation in the 5th European Union R&D Supporting Program.
2002
- Platform-independent protection for Java applications.
- Established Chinese office.
2003
- CodeMeter 1.0 shipped.
2004
- CmStick/M: first dongle with integrated flash disk.
- iF design Award received in China.
- European Patent for CodeMeter granted.
- Established Wibu-Systems offices in Belgium and The Netherlands.
2005
- Established Wibu-Systems (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.
- iF Design Award Germany received.
- For the first time, CodeMeter is a SIIA Code Awards finalist in the Best DRM Solution category.
2006
- CodeMeter granted patents in the USA and Japan, numerous new patents filed.
- Finalist at the SIIA Codie Awards for “Best Security Solution”.
- Nominated for the design prize of the Federal Republic of Germany.
- Established Wibu-Systems office in the UK.
2007
- First worldwide announcement of a Hacker’s Contest with CodeMeter (prize: $40,000)
- Finalist at the SIIA Codie Awards in the “Best DRM Solution” category.
2008
- CmAct introduced for software-only activation.
- Established Spanish office.
- Certified as Microsoft Gold Certified Partner.
- Coordination of new German Federal Ministry projects.
2009
- Wibu-Systems celebrates its 20-year anniversary.
- CodeMeter License Central introduced for creating, managing, and delivering licenses.
- CodeMeter introduced in SD Card and CF Card form factors.
2010
- CodeMeter is again chosen as a finalist for the SIIA CODiE Awards.
2011
- CmStick/C introduced as the world’s smallest dongle.
- Started development of cloud computing.
